Dalmata – Display Typeface
2020
Info
Dalmata is a display typeface that is named after the southern part of Croatia – Dalmatia.
The formal language of the typeface establishes a reference to the brutalist-looking war memorials (Spomeniks), which appear in large numbers in this region. The architecture usually appears strange, brutal, deterrent, but also playful, fragile and sensitive. Dalmata picks up this contrast and makes use of these different stylistic elements and thereby acquires its very own, comical, but also cheerful character. This aesthetic is a kind of contemporary witness to the often dark past, but with a focus on the positive and new.
